WESTERN SPRINGS - FINAL NIGHT
9th March 2013 The past weekend saw the final night at Western Springs for the 2012/13 season. After a disappointing meeting at Baypark last weekend, the team had put the car back together and was ready to go for twin features.
The heats saw Daniel end up with a 5th and a DNF. For the first heat, Dan started out of 12th. After getting away to a sluggish start he got a move on and drove up to 5th by race end. the second heat was over as quickly as it started Coming to the green, Daniel was squeezed and in turn forced the left front tyre off the rim, effectively ending his race, and a solid starting spot for the first of two features. The first feature was gridded from the heats over the night. Daniel accumulated enough points to start from 17th. With a fairly fast track over the night, come feature time it was starting to go away and widen out a little. Daniel found moisture on the bottom early and made some good moves to get up to 7th by race end. Feature 2 was a catch-up race from a few weeks back, where due to time constraints was not run. Dan started out of the 7th position and drove a smart race to end up 6th after 20laps. A few unlucky breaks throughout the race hindered potential to get further up. Next week the team heads to Baypark for another run down there. 23th February 2013 Baypark was next up on the calendar for the DRM team. Daniel was excited to get back on the fast red oval. Sadly, the night was over essentially as soon as it started. A mere few laps into the first heat race, contact was made with another car and in turn destroyed the front end and put the #5 car on the trailer for the rest of the night.

3rd February 2013 After a month off, the team was back at Western Springs for Night 10 of the track championship. From the start, it was apparent that we were in for a slick night. For the first heat, Daniel was slated to start out of position 2. Dan got away to a decent start, slotting into second. Mid race he made his way into the lead, before being past by 3NZ Daniel Eggleton. Daniel would cross the line in second, bagging some good points early.
Heat 2, and Daniel was set to start in the rear. On such a slick track, it was going to be a big ask to make big moves, and patience was the key. Daniel would end up crossing the line in 7th behind the #10 of Ricky Logan. Unfortunately due to time constraints, along with the fact it was the TQ champs, the sprint cars would not get a feature race. The plan is to run this feature next meeting. Next week will see the team back at Western Springs weather permitting, with twin features on the cards.

27th December 2012 The forecast heading into our busiest patch of the season was grim. Regardless the team headed to the Boxing day races at the Springs. With the car unloaded and ready to rock, the skies opened up and dumped a bunch of water over the venue forcing promotion to postpone the event to the following day. This in turn forced a clash between Baypark and the Springs as Baypark was host for the 2012 New Zealand Sprint car Grand Prix. With a number of teams committed to Baypark, most make the trek down to the mount with rain once again on the radar.
After driving through a number of downpours, we finally reached Tauranga and the skies were clear - racing was all go. Twenty-six cars were on hand, with the field being split into two groups. Daniel drew a deep pill for heat 1, meaning he would start in the rear. With the track going away quickly, passing was tough however Daniel managed to make his way into the 6th position by race end. Heat 2 was a reverse of the first heat. Daniel started out of position 3, and quickly took over the lead after getting a good start. With the car working well and Dan driving well, he pulled away from the field to grab the heat win along with a stack of points. With a number of cars placing similar in the heats, there were a number of ties. With ties broken using fastest laps, Daniel would line up 5th for the 25 lap main event. Daniel got away to a decent start, however he dropped back to 7th for the opening stint of the race. He knew the car would come to him, and kept a level head. After a number of yellows, he found a groove in the track that was working well and he began to make a charge towards the front. As the race wore on, the car came alive and Daniel began to make up good ground. With 5 laps to go he was up to 3rd, and rapidly closing in of 22a Dean Brindle. As he got to Brindle's bumper, the car started to misfire as he was running low on fuel. After a few attempts to work the bottom of the racetrack none the less, he ended up settling for third just making it to the line before the car quit.
Top 3: 1st - Jonathan Allard 2nd - Dean Brindle 3rd - Daniel Rogers It was a great result for the team, placing 3rd in the Grand Prix. The team will now regroup and work out where the next stop will be weather permitting. 1st December 2012 It seems summer has well and truly arrived, as once again we saw clear skies. The sprint car pits were packed full again for leg two of the World Sprint Car Classic.
The first heat saw Daniel pull a rear grid. On a narrow track and a stacked field, he drove to finish 8th behind Ricky Logan. Daniels second heat was a reverse of the first heat, so in turn Dan started out of position 3. Dan got away to a good start and comfortably set off in second behind Jon Allard. The pair would break away and finish respectively. With a solid pair of heats, Dan had accumulated enough points to make the pole shuffle. Dan was 8th on points going into the shuffle, so he was up against the first duel winner Greg Pickerill. Choosing the low line on the start, Dan was caught out in the slick along with getting pipped before the start box. This would mean he would start out of position 9 for the feature. Rolling off 9th in the feature Dan was hoping to have a clean run and move up the field He got away to an okay start, sitting inside the top 10 before being challenged for position by Peter Murphy. The pair battled for a number of laps before Murphy got the advantage and moved forward. After 30 grueling laps on a slick surface, Daniel pedaled his way to another top 10, finishing up in 9th. The team now have a few weeks off to prepare for a busy patch of racing after Christmas. The plan is to race 7 meetings over 10 days starting with the Boxing day races, and then ending with the New Zealand Title at Western Springs.

24th November 2012 Clear skies welcomed five time World of Outlaws Champion - Donny Schatz to Western Springs for his first appearance of the year. The sprint car pits were packed full for the $5000 to win World Sprint Car Classic. Competitors from all over the country had made the trip up to race against the best.
Daniels first heat saw him line up on the outside of row 4. After getting away to a clean start, all would be unravelled as an incident further up the field meant the Konica Minolta/Castrol EDGE #5 would have to spin to avoid the chaos - effectively ending the first heat and any chance of starting up from front of the 30-lap Amain. With the objective now moving towards scoring enough points to get into the show, Dan was looking for a solid result in Heat 2. Thankfully he was able to get by a mess in turn one involving 14m & 7a, to go on to finish a strong 3rd behind Peter Murphy and Donny Schatz.
After a pair of up and down heats, Rogers would start out of position 17 on a very slick, but racey track. With everyone searching for grip, Daniel drove a smart race making his way into the top 10 after 30 laps. The car had good speed throughout the feature, Dan just lacked the track position. We are back at Western Springs again this Saturday, for night two of the World Sprintcar Classic. Donny Schatz will be making his final appearance for the season, who will also be joined by all our regulars. Fingers crossed the weather holds together.

18th November 2012 For the second Springs meeting in a row, the weather forecast was grim. After constant rain on Saturday, the annual Heritage Shield meeting was moved to Sunday evening. The weather leading up to the meeting on Sunday had a massive impact on to track, leading to a soft rough surface.
The night started off with a good grid draw for Heat 1 - outside front row. Dan got the leap on the field and took off in the trying conditions. Mid race in lap traffic, Dean Brindle made his move and snatched the lead with Dan ending up 2nd. Dan's second heat saw him at the rear, in a stacked final heat race. Tricky conditions meant passing was tough, and the Castrol Edge/Konica Minolta J&J finished up 8th. With two decent heats behind him, Daniel rolled off 8th for the feature alongside Jamie Duff. He got away to a clean start running solidly in 7th before the front wing collapsed midway through the race. The track officials deemed the front wing to be unsafe and called Daniel off the racetrack. This ended the night on a sour note, however staying on four wheels with the track the way it was, was a positive in its self. The next meeting for the team is Saturday the 24th of Novemeber, back at Western Springs for the World Sprintcar Classic. Reigning World of Outlaw Champion Donny Schatz will be making his first of two appearances for the season. Should be a great show. 10th November 2012 The Annual Gisborne Sprint car invitational saw the DRM team make it's first long haul of the season. The team was looking forward to making their first visit to the ultra fast and banked Gisborne Speedway in a sprint car.
The night started with a set of hot laps to get everyone up to speed with the unique venue. The first(of two) 15lap heats was to be lined up based off a marble draw, with the second heat being revered. The feature was then lined up highest points off the front. Heat 1 saw Daniel start on the outside second row in 4th. After getting off to a good start, Daniel settled into a good rhythm running comfortably in 4th on a narrow, hard to pass surface before capitalizing on James Dahm's misfortune and in turn coming home in 3rd. For heat 2, Daniel rolled off grid 8. With some positive adjustments to the setup after Heat 1, Dan made good ground and made his way into the top 5 finishing 4th by race end. After two solid performances in the heats, the Konica Minota/Castrol EDGE J&J was 2nd on points behind Jamie Duff. The young pair bought the field to the green, with Daniel getting the advantage on the start - breaking out to an early lead. With open track and a near perfect car, it only took a handful of laps to get into lap traffic. Duff was only just holding onto the bumper of the #5 as Daniel picked his moments in traffic to perfection making short work of the first few lap cars. As he approached the 75m of Greg Kilworth, Duff closed in and began to apply the pressure. Daniel made a slight mistake in turn 3, allowing Duff to get the drive off turn 4 and make the pass for the lead. Duff immediately hit more heavy traffic, giving Daniel a chance in turn 1 to make a nice pass back on the 19 car to retake the lead. Duff would sneak under Daniel again with a handfull of laps to go and run away with the win, with Daniel coming home with a strong 2nd. The team would like to thank Gisborne Speedway for hosting a great event - we cant wait to come back next year! It was a great night with no crashes or clashes what so ever in the class. Next week we hope to be at Western Springs for meeting #2 of the track championship. 3rd November 2012 Opening night at Western Springs for the 2012/13 season was upon us all once again, however the weather gods appeared to have different plans. With scattered showers and thick cloud all day, racing was all but an uncertainty. Thankfully Springs promotions chose to stick through the unpredictable Auckland weather and got the show underway.
Heat 1 saw Daniel Rogers starting out of grid 9, alongside Christchurch campaigner Jamie Duff. With a fairly fast surface passing was at a minimum however Daniel managed to pass a few cars and come home 7th - a solid start! For Heat 2, Daniel was scheduled to start out of position 4. After loosing brakes in Heat 1, the team was uncertain as to what the problem was, and in turn was late getting onto the racetrack for heat 2. The rush was for nothing, as Daniel got pulled off the track for making a misjudgment and passing the pace car after firing his car. After not starting Heat 2, Daniel was off the tail end of the Feature. The track had widened out and Daniel began to settle into the race and started moving forward. After a great drive through the field, Daniel managed to finish up in the 8th position in a race which pretty much went flag to flag. Opening night was a great success for the Daniel Rogers Motorsport team. After overcoming brake problems early, it was nice to roll the car in the trailer in one piece, build confidence and get valuable laps in the new chassis.
Next weekend we are off to race in the Gisborne sprint car invitational. Check back after the weekend to see how we get on! 20th October 2012 Bayparks Opening saw the first race of the year for the Daniel Rogers Motorsport team.
After missing a practice due to rain this was the first run in the new car. Unfortunately due to a slight driver error the night ended very abruptly. Daniel started in the rear of his first heat, and after a few laps began to pick cars off lap by lap. On the final lap in turns 3 & 4, Daniel slid up the track and made slight contact with the 22a of Dean Brindle, resulting in a violent crash ending the night. To see the crash, check out the video below! The car will be fixed up ready to race for the next meeting at Western Springs Speedway on the 3rd of November. See you all there! Special thanks to all our Partners - Konica Minolta, Castrol EDGE, ETCO Electrical Apprenticeships, Pacific Toyota, Electric Designs, Kirrane Automotive, Custom Ride Body Works & Lane Engineering The new season starts this weekend at Baypark Speedway in Tauranga.
