YEARS RACING IN SPEEDWAY:
Ever since I can remember, I have been involved in motorsport. Growing up in a family involved in speedway, spending every summer at various speedway tracks around New Zealand following my dads racing, so it was only natural that when I was old enough to do so I would race myself.
At the age of 12 after years of watching from the side-lines, racing go karts and quad bikes, I got my first taste of speedway racing when I entered into the New Zealand Mini Stock class. After my first race I was hooked I would do whatever it took to become a successful race car driver.
So after only one season of racing I sold my original mini Stock and with the help of my dad I got to work on building a new Mini Stock for the up and coming season. I spent the next three years building up my knowledge and experience on dirt racing. After many enjoyable weekends and many wins all over New Zealand we decided that it was time to make the move into the Sprint Car class as planned but the condition was I had to do it all myself, that included buying my own car, organising and funding and learning all aspects of sprint car setups, maintenance and racing.
After selling everything I had including my Mini Stock and go kart and using all my savings from after school and holiday jobs, all my hard work paid off when I purchased my new sprint car which then made me New Zealandís youngest Sprint Car team owner and driver. After being granted my dispensation to race at the age of 15 from speedway New Zealand I was set to go. I am fortunate enough to have Castrol New Zealand who have been with me from the beginning, My dad (New Zealand Grand Prix winner), Kevin Fillingham (Ex New Zealand title holder) and Paul Lindberg (Australian Sprint Car title winner) helping me, guiding me, supporting me and sharing their very valuable knowledge with me, these people will be the back bone of Daniel Rogers Motorsport and my racing career.
I have now had four full seasons in the Sprint Car class in my first season I achieved qualifying 4th for an international meeting at Western Springs, also being the youngest person to finish on the podium since NASCAR star Jeff Gordon did in 1988 when I finished 3rd in Heritage Shield at Western Springs. The last season has been good, with multiple heat wins and top 5 finishes with steady improvement over the year.
